Beyond Rust
The seated is not always weary |
I was moved deeply by this poem the first time I read it. It made me ponder how every situation or object is not always what it seems at first glance. Inspired by this poem, I started photographing spaces that were abandoned. As I was photographing, I began to read the book “Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers”. This made me appreciate the imperfection and history of things that come with old age. As I reflect on these photographs, I also think of my experiences as an Iranian immigrant, our collective sense of loss and nostalgia for the past echoes in these abandoned spaces near my new home. This series of photographs convey metaphors of ambiguity and age that flow from these various threads of thoughts.
